Dear 7th and 8th Grade Parents,

Seventh and eighth grade students are encouraged to participate in community service hours in order to fulfill the expectation of fifteen (15) total hours of community service before their eighth grade graduation. Community service experiences are a meaningful way for students to practice citizenship, responsibility, and leadership skills.

This is to be a free service in which students do not accept payment. Services may be provided to anyone outside the student's immediate family and for non-profit organizations or events. Community service hours can be earned over the summer months as well. Students are encouraged to seek out organizations or events which interest them as well as check with me throughout the year for school service opportunities. After completing hours students should get a brief written verification from an adult or parent stating the date, the service, and the number of hours. This should be submitted to me either by email or on paper. It is recommended to complete seven hours in seventh grade, and eight hours in eighth grade.

Tisbury students in the past have volunteered service in a variety of ways such as; decorating the Tisbury Senior Center for their holiday party, helping out at the Tisbury School Book Fair, making announcements during parent teacher conferences, volunteering at town libraries, senior center, the MV animal shelter, helping coach younger children, raking leaves for an elderly neighbor, and volunteering at non profit events or local churches.

Please contact me with any questions you may have regarding community service.

Thank you for your support,

How to help the PTO:
Please consider signing up for Amazon Smile. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, Amazon donates to your favorite charitable organization. Make your charitable organization Tisbury School PTO.

Reminder: School banking is held every
Thursday between 11:00AM - 1:00PM in front of the cafeteria.
Staff and students in grades K - 8 may participate in the
Tisbury School banking program. You can make a deposit each
week with as little as 25 cents or as much as you want.
School banking is a great way to start saving early for the
7th grade Ski Trip or the 8th grade Washington DC Trip.

Dear Parents:

As the cost of school trips continues to escalate, savings becomes even more important for each
student. These trips have been a tradition at our school and it is my hope that with proper
savings or fundraising they can continue in these uncertain economic times.
At the beginning of the school year we establish the cost for some of these trips to provide Field Trip Destination - #days/overnight - Cost

6th Grade Camp Alton Jones -3days/2nights - $230.00
7th Grade Ski Trip in NH -3days/2nights - $325.00
8th Grade Washington, DC - 5days/4nights - $860.00
Weekly Savings: (30 weeks/year) End of 8th Grade

Beginning in Grade 1 $5.90/week - $1,416.00
Beginning in Grade 2 $6.74/week - $1,415.40
Beginning in Grade 3 $7.87/week - $1,416.60
Beginning in Grade 4 $9.44/week - $1,416.00
Beginning in Grade 5 $11.80/week - $1,416.00

The goal is of this letter is to let parents know of these expenses in order to plan accordingly.
School Banking is one option to consider. For more information about the School Banking program,
please contact Esther Teves at 508-696-6500.

Sincerely,
John Custer
